Postgraduate Diploma in Education and Culture (online)

Culture is the specific nourishment of human beings and education is the digestion process of this nourishment (Lali Bosch).

During the past few years, the world of culture and education has been going through deep transformations as a result of the paradigm changes that the 21st century has brought about, the web culture and a new citizenship that demands to review certain static and compartmentalized models of different social and cultural disciplines.

Education is no longer understood only as schooling and scholarly curricula; concepts, such as lifelong learning, education in creativity and innovation or education in interculturality and the development of citizenry are gaining power and being demanded by different sections of society. At the same time, culture is recuperating its social and educational aspect, which, maybe for a few years it was detached from. Currently, with the crisis and the change of social models, it is taking up again in different environments. The cultural sector has seen the necessity and the opportunity of cooperating with the educational sector, not just through schools, but by thinking up broader educational proposals that promote the creation of new public groups, more critical citizens and new perspectives for the culture of the 21st century.

This postgraduate diploma offers a space for training, reflection and exchange on the relations between such two concepts which are so close to each other as education and culture and yet which have often been seen from different perspectives. The teaching program blends knowledge of a more theoretical nature with more practical and creative approaches so that all those that are interested in training themselves in this sense can take advantage of a more reflexive discourse and get to know real and professional experiences that use this pair in a cross-cutting manner.

  • To provide people with different academic profiles with training of a professional nature in the cultural and educational sector.
  • To acquire a few conceptual and theoretical bases regarding the relations between culture and education.
  • To analyze the educational function of the cultural services, programs and projects and the cultural basis of educational systems.
  • To get to know international projects and proposals that work on this cross-cutting line.
  • To provide resources, tools and methodology to elaborate on projects in the field of education and culture.

The Postgraduate program will train students to:

Dominate the basic concepts referring to education and culture.

Understand the evolution of these two concepts throughout history up to the present day.

Identify possible points of intersection between the two sectors and analyze their potentials.

Acquire an international vision in this field of study and action and get a close look at the experiences and initiatives that are taking place in this environment.

Create, design, evaluate and disseminate cultural projects in the field of education and/or educational projects in the field of culture.

Reflect upon some possible future lines in this field.
